A Dream Within a Dream
It is a clear night. The stars shine brightly in the dark pool of cloudless sky while the moon glows mysteriously above the horizon, her light guiding those who wander the streets at night. But do you know this? Of course not. You're inside your house, comfortably snuggled on your sofa. You shift absentmindedly as you press a few buttons on the controller, thoroughly enjoying your favorite video game.
Strangely enough, you begin to hear voices-- not entirely voices but, at the very least, sounds. They are not comprehensive enough to be considered spoken words of another but they most certainly exist. You set down the controller and tumble from the sofa. Your curiosity stirs you more than the fear. You then wander through your house, your feet stubbornly moving forward even though your mind questions the motive. What in the world could be making such a racket at this time?
Eventually, you are led to your computer. The screen is glowing a bright shade of grey and you wonder if a virus has found its way into the system. What is stranger is that the computer itself emits a series of beeps and buzzes as though it is trying to communicate with you. When you do not answer, you feel a magnetic pull toward the screen and you cannot help but reach out to graze it with your fingertips. Immediately, your draw your hand back.
What had happened? Your fingers had gone right through the screen. Shocked, you study your hand, noting that no harm had come to it-- no severed fingers, no cuts, no bruises. Your hand feels perfectly fine. Of course, as if that isn't enough, you step toward the computer and it speaks once again in its language of beeps and buzzes. Once you gather enough braver to inch closer a sensation fills your body. You feel rather... odd, though there is no pain. Your body is numb but you can still control your movements. You tilt your head up from studying your arms to stare into the screen.
It flashes. And you see no more.____________________________________
When you awake, you find yourself surprised and utterly overwhelmed. You do not yet know it but in your ignorance, you had tumbled into the realm of Fayst Nastale, where the reality you had come to know upon earth begins to unwind.
