You don't need to know more, you learn what it does and what it looked like. The only reason I would want to know more is if I intended on using them in a story, and the only more I would want to know is how it worked and what parts did what actions.

The topic itself is fascinating and disturbing all at the same time. After reading about it, I find that I constantly think about it-- I think it's interesting because I always wonder how any human can do it to another living creature, regardless if that someone were human or not. And I become very disturbed. But it's still interesting and captures my attention.
