I saw that the psychology class at school had a prompt for an essay that looked like this.
"Some people in the US have started watching something called 'anime' ('Japanese Cartoons'), and have taken this 'anime' to very extreme levels. There are some people so dedicated that they have started to dress themselves in costume to 'become' one of the characters. Do you think this is wrong? What do you think is going on their heads to make them do something like this? If you had a friend who has gone to extremes like this, what would you to to help them through their problem?"
My favorite part was when they had to clarify that anime is Japanese cartoons.
If I was in psychology now, I would have a field day with this essay.

Wow, I wish we had essay prompts like that in MY psychology class. I find this all too amusing.

I think I might write the essay even though I'm not in the class and give it to her. Except I'll write about all the people I want to cosplay as, and put into detail exactly how I would go about making the costumes.

Like I said on GMail, this teacher needs to be admitted to her own institution for an unhealthy obsession with assuming that people a little bit different are infact, insane and unhealthy.
People dress as rockstars, TV actors/actresses, and whatnot, what can't people dress as a cartoon character they like?
Another thing; cosplay has been around for many years, long before anime became a household name. Comicon has existed for some time, people.
