♪ Hitotsu, hitoyo no koi naraba.♫ Sasami sang quietly, her innocent voice barely audible to even herself. She sat with her legs underneath her body next to a flowing stream, cleaning her hair sticks, carefully so that she wouldn't cut herself on them. The young asian girl appeared to be thirteen, only barely showing features of womanhood. Her jet-black hair, which reached almost to the small of her back, flowed freely in the breeze since what had bound it was being cleaned by the stream. The water now had a small ribbon of red dancing with the current.
♪Futatsu, futari de jigoku he to.♫ After her hair sticks were pristine, she went to her sais. Sasami grew up knowing that if her instruments weren't in the best condition, she was forfeiting her life. It was second nature to her now, a sort of after-mission ritual. Sasami would treat her body if injured, then tend to her tools, then clean her appearance, all while singing one particular song. The red ribbon elongated in the water.
♪Mittsu, mina wo koroshitemo.♫ Sasami worried for her elder brother, however. Technically she was still in training, and had to have another accompany her in any mission. Unfortunately, on the way out the pair ran into a snag, and had to go separate ways to prevent capture. She ran into no problems once she was in the woods. Sure she was still wet, muddy, and bloody from running all night, but no one followed her. Sasami only hoped that the same was true for her brother. The red ribbon grew thicker.
♪Yottsu, yomi he no michi-shirube. Yottsu, yomi he no michi-shirube.♫ A bark was heard upstream in the distance. Normally, Sasami liked dogs, she played with them when she could, even during a mission. Her brother didn't like dogs, once they smell you, they tend to bark, and if you were trying stay hidden, a bark is one of the things you didn't want to hear. This time the bark terrified her, did someone finally catch up to her? No, the bark was a happier one, from a dog that randomly found something interesting. The dog would still have an owner though, a bystander, an innocent. Sasami acted quickly and by the time the dog barked a second time she was already running downstream, in the water so that her feet wouldn't make tracks. When the half-elf pulled back the branches there was nothing there but a few red and brown stained rocks, the long red ribbon cut and disappearing in the dancing current.
