Idk. Sometimes some stuff can be good and other times (a lot of times) it sucks. I don't like to make huge generalizations about music like that because, although i generally don't like rap or country either, sometimes it can be very good.

Rap overall is win in my opinion. There's some songs I don't like, but that's every genre. I think everyone can find AT LEAST one song from every genre they like.

I don't like mainstream rap culture. Rap can be good, but I've come across few examples of it. Personally, I'm more into pop punk.
Mainstream rap culture... having grown up with it (since the Bronx is the birthplace of rap), I kind of understand it a little more than most people. That being said, I don't think it should be confined to that. Rap shouldn't be associated with a few simple subject matters such as killing, drugs, and sex. Not that I MIND that, since some of the greatest rap songs are all about that stuff, but an entire genre shouldn't be based around the same thing. That's why rap gets such a bad rep- everything sounds the same. BUT, I think we're finally pulling out of that phase. Nobody's ever heard anything like KiD CuDi, and, love him or hate him, Lil Wayne has a style all his own, among many other innovators.

As for me, i don't care much for rap because much of it -- well, much of it that i've heard, which is admittedly not a lot -- just is not all that musical. As a music man, i'm not someone who focuses too much on lyrics, which seems to be a reason for many to dislike rap. A lot of rap seems a bit repetitive and uncreative to my ears; there just doesn't seem to be anything astounding by it. Yeah, they have good beats, but thats just usually not enough for me. Maybe its because I simply don't listen to rap, and i'm judging my opinion off of the little rap I've heard, and it seems very likely that many people that dislike like do not and have not listened to it much either. I am 100% positive that if I listened around, I could find rap that I like, but i just don't.
Also, i'm more into happy music XD Find me some happy rap and i'll listen to it XD

End of Zelos report.
Yeah, that's why I called it MAINSTREAM rap culture, instead of just rap culture. The distorted images of masculinity and sex, and the guys who buy right into it in an attempt to be ghettofabulous. But as you pointed out, not all rap is based on that, although a majority of, at least the more popular rap artists, have songs based on mainstream rap culture. As for rap not being music, I must disagree. That's almost like saying percussion isn't music. While rapping isn't singing, it's still music.
